The Equinox Photography | Europe

The Equinox Photography is the creative journey of a woman, whose vintage-inspired, intimate pictures — shot in both analogue and digital formats — tell stories about passions, love, and self-discovery.

Meet Annalisa, the woman behind this project.

How did you first get into photography?

My journey into the world of photography began around 2000. I was a curious four-year-old girl, and I started taking pictures using my parents’ analogue reflex cameras. I carried a camera with me wherever I went.

Despite my passion for the arts, I didn’t pursue photography professionally. I was afraid of being judged. Unfortunately, our society doesn't fully embrace creative careers. That’s why I studied mechanical engineering. Despite graduating with honours, I felt like I had lost all of my creativity.

Last year, I decided to stop hiding my pictures from the world and fully embrace my passion for photography.

What subjects or themes do you most enjoy photographing and why?

My photography style has been described as “existential”. Every picture I take is related to something I feel and is usually inspired by music, literature, and the counterculture of the 1960s and 1970s. Whether it’s a self-portrait or a still life, I aim to express my emotions and thoughts. The result is a series of vintage-inspired, intimate pictures with a scientific attention to detail.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned through photography?

In this fast-paced world, photography has taught me the importance of patience. I’ve learnt to appreciate the beauty of taking my time and to follow the rhythm of nature.

How has photography changed your perspective on the world?

Everybody knows, or at least should know, how complex the world is. However, one can't fully understand this until capturing it through a camera lens. Photography has allowed me to discover the multifaceted nature of reality.
